Survival Resources:
Generating indoor warmth
from a candle heat source

The video below portrays only a starting point. For safety reasons, please modify the specifications of the clay flower pot heater design.

Increase Your Natural Warmth:

  1. Employ all warmth preserving clothing and body covering resources you can, if you need to survive an indoor heat loss or an extreme outdoor threat in cold temperatures, including wearing wool hats and scarves, sweaters, leggings and blankets, leather mittens, synthetic comforters and sleeping bags. Layer your winter clothing.
  2. Use Mylar emergency (space) blankets. See examples below.
  3. Wear Magnetic Soles.
wool sweaters
Benefits are:
  • Increased nerve conduction
  • Increased circulation
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Optimized delivery system in the body for Nutrients and Oxygen
  • Gained physical endurance. Please see:
  1. Adapt the clay flower pot with candle design in the video below for increased safety.
  2. Use a Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in the USA. You can't see, smell or taste CO in the air. See examples below.
  3. Ideally use a beeswax candle. A votive beeswax candle is rated to burn 15 hours. Test the clay flower pot design with one candle and one clay pot to see if that is enough heat, if you desire to only warm a cool spot. If using a taller beeswax pillar candle, adjust the size of your clay pot to adequately accommodate the height of the candle.
  4. Be responsible. Read and follow all the safety tips below.
  5. There is some level of risk to using this kind of equipment. It is not CSA or UL certified. Safety Tips

  • Beeswax emits negative ions which cleanse the air.
  • Soy wax does not burn as hot as paraffin wax and you need to ensure that it is GMO free.
  • Paraffin wax is a petroleum by-product. It is created during the process of refining crude oil into gasoline. When it is heated, it releases the toxins acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, toluene, benzene and acrolein into the air, all of which increase your risk for cancer. [Source]
  • Wicks that shift off centered during the burning can melt a plastic tea light cup, so substitute something safer such as metal, glass or ceramic.
  • Keep wax free of wick trimmings, matches and other materials.
  • Light the match outside to avoid bringing the fumes indoors.
  • Avoid flowing air drafts.
  • Avoid vibrations that could cause things to shift.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Always burn your candle far away from anything flammable.
  • Burn your candle within sight. Take it with you if you travel to another room.
  • Extinguish with care, using a candle snuffer or appropriate other tool.
  • Covering clay pot container and vent covering metal piece will be very hot when candle is lit and afterwards for a lengthy cool-down period.
  • Do not burn your candle if its wax level is below 1/4”.
  • Use additional fire-proof containment materials such as a clean of residue cast-iron fry pan, a stainless steel cullender and/or large ceramic tiles.

Lead Wick Warning

Candles and Incense As Potential Sources of Indoor Air Pollution

According to the EPA, “Candles with lead wicks have the potential to generate indoor airborne lead concentrations of health concern. It is also possible for consumers to unknowingly purchase candles containing lead wick cores and repeatedly expose themselves to harmful amounts of lead through regular candle-burning.”
